25/25 Day 5: Gifts for the Hostess

This time of year is also time for lots of holiday parties. I'm personally at the point where it would take a LOT of effort to get my house ready for company, so I am especially appreciative of those who are the hosts. Although a bottle of wine or bouquet of flowers is usually a welcome gifts, we also have a few items that are nice tokens for the gracious host & hostess.

1. Mercury glass votive holders. These lovelies come in a range of blues, greens, and purples. They seem to glow inside, and that's not even with a candle. They add a little warmth and sparkle to a table setting.

2. Mini recipe boxes. These little treasures have several different recipes based around a theme - bacon, cheese, chocolate, champagne, etc. We like the fun collage/graphic design of each little card and thought they would be fun gifts for the culinarily inclined.

3. Tea towels. Available from at least four different artists, we have tea towels with Wisconsin screenprinted on them and a souvenir Wisconsin dish towel, also towels with chickens, bicycles, butterflies and vegetables, though not all once. These dish towels are made in Michigan by an artist who creates her own block prints for each towel.

4. Little dishes.  We love these ceramic dishes from an artist in Milwaukee. Her combination of different stamped images is always fun. New this season is a whole bicycle series which has already been very popular. I like to go to parties with a nice plate underneath whatever treat I am bringing, and the plate ends up being part of the hostess gift. It would be fun to uncover these fun patterns as the caramel brownies disappear.
