I woke up this morning thinking about changing the text on our sandwich board, just for variety. "100s of items Made in Madison" is what first came to mind; then I thought, hmm... maybe 10s would be more accurate but far less interesting. So here's the test to see what number I can put down, but also a good catalog of what we have in store at the moment. I realize our selection is a little puzzling to some people -- they have trouble figuring out what category we belong to: scrapbooking? crafts? paper? gift? But a big reason for the assortment is the fact that we emphasize creations by local artists, which encompasses a broad range of items. So, here's my list. I'm listing items by artist, and double-counting if more than one artist makes things (because button bracelets by Naomi are different than those by Sachi). And I am counting creations by nearby artists (Stoughton counts, Illinois does not). So, I hope that's not considered cheating. There is the grocery store dilemma -- you count a bunch of bananas as one item but two boxes of cereal as two items when trying to see if you qualify for the "15 items or less aisle"? I can tell that people treat that rule with some flexibility. IF I counted items in the strict sense of the word, we'd be well into the 100s -- and that's just between button bracelets, tile coasters and bottle cap magnets. I won't count that way, but it doesn't make the statement less true, does it? After the Komai family, the order is in alphabetical order according to the way people are listed in our computer (which might not be reflected here since it could be by their company name, last name or first name -- "consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds..." ha ha, just a fav quote from the movie "Next Stop Wonderland").
